Retarnel Shaw

Mr. Retarnel Shaw, 98, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2025, at his home in Perry surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Shaw was born in O’Claire, Fla., on June 24, 1927, to his parents, John and Minnie Ellison Shaw. He was raised in Steinhatchee on the banks of the Steinhatchee River. He worked at the Perry Army Air Base during World War II, after which he began working as a truck driver hauling gas and diesel, as well as delivering kerosene to many tobacco barns and homes. Twenty-eight years ago, he met his wife, Miriam Sussmann. Mr. Shaw was preceded in death by: his parents, John William and Minnie Ellison Shaw; his first wife, Margaret Shaw; brother, Gordon Shaw; and his son, Donald Shaw. He is survived by: his wife, Miriam Shaw; brother, John Shaw; brother-inlaw, Mark Sussmann (Elizabeth); sons, Louis Shaw (Kathy) and Shelby Lee Shaw; daughter, JoAnn Watts; stepsons, Henry B. Smith (Toni) and Jack E. Smith (Amanda); and a host of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at First Assembly of God, 828 W Julia St Perry. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Mingo Cemetery in Steinhatchee. Beggs Funeral Home Perry Chapel is in charge of arrangements (850-8382929).
