Cash prizes will be awarded in speech contest

Taylor County students ages 14-18 are invited to take part in the annual Youth Speech Contest sponsored by Taylor County Farm Bureau, where $300 in cash prizes will be awarded.

Participants must deliver five-minute speeches on the topic: “What obstacles threaten Florida agriculture’s economic viability, and how do we address them?”

The contest will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at the Taylor County Farm Bureau offices, located at 813 South Washington Street.

The county winner will advance to compete for the district title Monday, Sept. 22.

“The purpose of this contest is to promote a stronger interest and clearer understanding of the many aspects of agriculture, to provide opportunity for our youth to gain knowledge, appreciation and understanding of agriculture,” Farm Bureau officials said.

Cash prizes will be awarded for first place ($150); second place ($100) and third place ($50).
