Barney Joseph Stephens, a cherished father, beloved husband and devoted friend, passed away peacefully on Aug. 23, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born in Gainesville, on Sept. 29, 1943, Barney lived his life with warmth, laughter and a spirit of adventure.
An industrious man, Barney carved out a fulfilling career as a truck driver with Triple P Trucking, where he was known for his strong work ethic and integrity.
His dedication to his job was matched only by his love for his family.
Barney’s greatest joy originated from the simple pleasures of life. He found solace in the great outdoors, whether he was fishing on the ocean, exploring new places while traveling or enjoying the blessings of nature that surrounded him.
He was a faithful member of Midway Baptist Church of Perry, where he shared his passion for music through uplifting singing, bringing joy to those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Barney and Verna Stephens, and one daughter, Margaret Sauls.
He is survived by: his beloved wife, Jackie Stephens; his caring children, Ernest “Butch” Brown and his wife, Paula, James “Jimmy” Beaty, Michael Aman and his wife, Lindsey, Celina Benson and her husband, Patrick, Nellie Rene Mingus and her husband, William, Marilyn Boniefont and her husband, Joel, and Sue Ann Thomas; two sisters, Mary Ann Wimberly and Linda Bradley; his best friend, Johnny Higgins; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Those who knew him will remember Barney for his kindness, laughter and unwavering support.
A visitation will be held in honor of Barney’s life on Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home of Perry from 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Aug. 28, at 10 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church of Perry with Pastor Tom Studstill officiating where family and friends will gather to celebrate and remember the wonderful moments shared with him.
Interment service will follow at Pisgah Cemetery.
