Taylor County Sheriff Wayne Padgett (right) appeared before the county commission at its final public hearing on the proposed 2025-26 fiscal year budget Monday, asking for the county to “maintain” the same level of funding as in the current year. Padgett stated if he was forced to make cuts, “low-hanging fruit” would be the first to go, including services the TCSO does not “have to” provide, such as cemetery mowing.
The Taylor County Commission rejected one last request from Taylor County Sheriff Wayne Padgett to restore $200,000 back to his budget for 2025-26, instead approving the final county budget as presented.
