Review: ‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’ prove history can be fun…and funny

2014-03-14-Mr-Peabody-and-Sherman-movie-posterMr. Peabody and Sherman starred in “Peabody’s Improbable History” segments alongside Bullwinkle and the rest. The shorts, usually five or six minutes long, followed the world’s smartest dog and his adopted boy as they traveled through time in his WABAC machine, providing a fun and somewhat educational trip into the past.

Brought into the present by Dreamworks Animation, “Mr. Peabody & Sherman” provides just the right mix of humor and heart that is the hallmark of great animated films and great family films in general. Following on the heels of the spectacular “The Lego Movie,” this film proves 2014 is shaping up to be a great year for animation.

“Mr. Peabody & Sherman” is the second best film of 2014 I’ve seen, following “The Lego Movie” by a hair. Like that film, this one has a wonderful message about family coupled with great humor, solid action and beautiful animation.

The film is rated PG for some mild action and brief rude humor.
