Mr. Richard Louis Olsen, 87, passed away, Sunday morning, Oct. 26, 2025, at home with his wife at his side.
He was born in Jersey City, N.J., on Aug. 25,1938, to Richard J. and Helen Sebecke Olsen.
After graduating high school, he joined the United States Navy.
He then attended college and earned his industrial engineer degree. He was a machinist and an industrial engineer and worked for Westinghouse Elevators in New Jersey, and at Elastimold, where they manufacture pre-molded accessory components for underground cable.
About 20 years ago he decided to move to Perry to be close to the ocean and to be close to his parents, who lived at Cherry Lake.
He then married Teresa Kinsey, and they had a beautiful 12 years together, having many adventures, including road trips by car and motorcycle, and many cruises.
They enjoyed going to Panama City Beach every year and going to “Tin Can” reunions.
Richard was an avid bowler, loved to read books and loved to fish.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, in Perry, the Elks Lodge, AARP, the American Legion and he was a Boy Scout leader.
He was very proud of the fact of his troop winning the Philmont Award.
He helped many people file their tax returns and helped senior citizens with driver refresher courses to receive discounts on their auto insurance through AARP.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard J. and Helen S. Olsen; brother, Harold Olsen; his stepmother, Mary Olsen; his wife of 33 years, Kathleen Olsen; and his dogs, Spencer and Samara.
He is survived by: his wife, Teresa Kinsey Olsen of Perry; and four children, Douglas Olsen (Doreen) of South Carolina, David Olsen and Daniel Olsen (Dwayne) of Minnesota and his daughter, Erica Jones of Washington; four grandchildren, Keith (Ashley), Angelica, Taylor and Dylan; and one great-grandchild on the way.
A memorial service will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 3 p.m. at the Tallahassee National Cemetery (5015 Apalachee Parkway) in Tallahassee. Beggs Funeral Home, Perry Chapel, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be shared at beggsfuneral.com.
