County commission seeking public feedback on GP’s wastewater permit
Posted on November 21, 2025
Former Foley Cellulose Environmental Manager Chet Thompson (at podium), who is now principal at Due Diligence Associates, Inc., addressed the Taylor County Commission Tuesday evening, providing the board with an update on Georgia-Pacific’s efforts to move the Foley Cellulose Mill wastewater discharge point. Thompson recommended the commission hold a public meeting to receive input on the company’s permit application, after which the commission would develop and submit a formal response as a board to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection directly.
With it now seeming unlikely that Georgia-Pacific (GP) will reach out to the Taylor County Commission regarding the company’s efforts to move the Foley Cellulose Mill wastewater discharge point, the commission will instead hold its own special meeting next month to solicit the public’s feedback and concerns in order to develop a formal response to GP’s permit application.
