GP prohibited from using Fenholloway River pipeline
Posted on December 3, 2025
Construction crews are shown working on the Fenholloway River pipeline in 2019, one year before it began transporting treated wastewater from Georgia-Pacific’s (GP) Foley Cellulose Mill to a discharge point near the mouth of the river. GP closed the mill in November 2023, but continued to use the pipeline, which resulted in a lawsuit filed by landowner Four Rivers Land & Timber. According to GP officials, shortly before Thanksgiving an arbitration panel prohibited GP from continuing to use the pipeline.
Georgia-Pacific (GP) can no longer use its Fenholloway pipeline to transfer treated wastewater from the former Foley Cellulose Mill into the Fenholloway River, meaning the company currently has no legal way to discharge wastewater or stormwater from the mill site and may have to remove the pipeline from the ground.
