City of Perry utility workers met with contractors at the scene of a Sunday morning vehicle crash that broke a 12-inch water main under a fire hydrant on Jefferson Street near the intersection with East Buckhalter Way. The impact broke the city’s water line, causing the roadway to wash out and partially collapse. City workers quickly restored water pressure and flow during the early-morning hours on Sunday, but continued working Tuesday on a small leak that must be completed prior to the road being repaired and re-opened.
A drowsy motorist traveling back home to Miami crashed into a fire hydrant on Jefferson Street early Sunday morning, causing a major water line break that washed out a large section of the main roadway in downtown Perry and left thousands temporarily without water pressure.
