Wetlands limit amenities in Steinhatchee Coastal Park
Posted on March 11, 2026
While the county-owned property that is home to the future Steinhatchee Coastal Park totals 61 acres, the vast majority consists of wetlands (shown above in green) and only 17 acres are developable. The property is separated into four different areas (shown above in white). Current plans include a stage, picnic pavilions, restrooms, sports field, kayak launch, walking trails and parking lot. Although the design is being funded through a $300,000 grant the county received through the Rural Infrastructure Fund (RIF) Program, construction of the park will require additional grants.
Plans for the proposed “Steinhatchee Coastal Park” — a 61-acre county-owned parcel of land located near the mouth of the Steinhatchee River — are solidifying, but the eventual amenities will be limited due to the relatively small amount of available uplands on the property.
