FDEP schedules public meeting on GP’s wastewater permit for April 23
Posted on March 20, 2026
As requested by the county commission, FDEP has granted a public meeting (April 23 from 5-7 p.m. at Forest Capital Hall) on a new draft permit that authorizes GP to discharge treated rain and stormwater runoff at the original site near the mill (D-001) or at the end of the pipeline near Peterson’s Landing at the mouth of the Fenholloway River (D-002) if GP can resolve pipeline easement issues with Four Rivers Land & Timber. FDEP specifically noted it is not authorizing the use of the pipeline itself, because it is a landowner easement issue, but proposes allowing authorized wastewater discharge at D-002 if the easement issue is resolved.
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) announced this week that it will hold a local public meeting on Thursday, April 23, to allow the public to comment on a draft permit that would allow Georgia-Pacific (GP) to move the discharge point of the now-closed Foley Cellulose mill’s treated effluent from the end of the pipeline near the mouth of the Fenholloway River back to its original discharge point near the mill site.
