County officials say a state law passed in 2025 that was intended to prevent counties from making building regulations more restrictive for those attempting to rebuild after hurricanes or other disasters is inadvertently making it significantly more difficult, and potentially more costly, for the county to make any changes to its rules — even those they say would relax restrictions already in place.
