It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Claude “Butch” Albert Neely III, who left us on June 16, 2026, at the age of 70.
Born on July 29, 1955, in Valdosta, Ga., Butch spent his life making a mark as an engineer in the marine industry and bringing joy to those around him.
Butch was a man of many interests.
He served in the United States Air Force as a Missile Systems Maintenance Specialist.
He found true joy in woodworking, where he transformed simple pieces of wood into treasures.
His love for model railroads brought a spark of creativity and fun into his life, and he could often be found lost in a good book or cheering enthusiastically for his favorite basketball teams.
He was preceded in death by: his mother, Bonnie Neely Platt; his stepfather, R. B. Platt; his father, Claude A. Neely Jr.; and his nephew, Chase B. Hall.
Butch is survived by: his beloved spouse of 45 years, Mary Neely, who was his partner in all things, sharing in his passions and supporting him through life’s ups and downs; his sister, Deborah Hall, and her husband, Dewayne, of Tallahassee; and his aunt, Rhonda Newell, and her husband, Edward, of Pearson, Ga.; as well as many cousins.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 19 at 11 a.m. at San Pedro Cemetery in Perry.
All who knew him are welcome to join in honoring a truly wonderful man.
Claude will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
