    County to talk data centers at workshop

    The Taylor County Commission meeting on Monday, July 6, was filled with concerned residents and others voicing their opposition to any data centers coming to the county. Although there are currently no active proposals to locate one here, the residents called on the commission to approve a temporary moratorium on data centers. After a lengthy and sometimes contentious debate punctuated by occasional shouts from the crowd, a motion to begin the process of implementing a moratorium through the end of the year failed in a 2-2 vote.

    When county commissioners rejected a proposed moratorium on data centers in Taylor County at their July 6 board meeting, the board bucked a growing trend around the state that upset many of those in attendance who were calling for a pause on any consideration of the large computer warehouses.
