Dannie Ray Weatherly, 72, of Perry passed away on Sunday, Sept. 27, 2026. Dannie was born on July 20, 1954, in Perry to James Henry Weatherly and Catherine (Suber) Weatherly. He started working at Crews Craft at the age of 16; he went on to work for Sports Craft as a boat builder, then later as night security. He also took on his most important job – providing surveillance and security for the family property lovingly known to us as “Parker Hill.” You could find Dannie most any Friday and Saturdays looking for the best bargains or yard sale with his wife of 38 years, Sandra. He carried on this passion even after her death. He was known to the grandchildren and greatgrands as “Papa Dannie” who all have fond memories of him. Each one had a special place in his heart – he was “Papa,” and he loved them all. They all knew the theme songs to NCIS, In the Heat of the Night, Monday Night Raw and many other older TV shows playing during their visits with an abundance of sweet tea to drink. Dannie was preceded in death by: his wife of 38 years, Sandra P. Weatherly; his parents, James Henry Weatherly and Catherine Suber Weatherly; son, Dannie Ray Weatherly Jr.; brother, Jimmy Weatherly (Gail); and sister, Catherine Rose Davis. He is survived by: his sons, Ray W. Weatherly, Jody DeVane and Scott DeVane (Linnie); daughters, Daniel Weatherly, Melinda Gill (Jon) and Stacie Coxwell (Joe); brothers, George (Dub) Weatherly (Betty), T.C. Weatherly, Bo Weatherly (Patsey) and Jamie Weatherly (Amanda); sister, Carolyn Foskey (Doc); 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 2, at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home from 2:30-3:30 p.m., followed by graveside services at Woodlawn Cemetery at 4 p.m.
