Thankful community honors its heroes on Memorial Day

The sepia-toned portrait captured a handsome young soldier in uniform.

On any other day, the framed photo may be found in a place of honor at a loved one’s home. But on Monday, the photo was placed at the base of the monument saluting Taylor County’s war dead—a face to be remembered rather than simply a name chiseled in granite.
