The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission last week passed final rules to establish a bear hunting season in late October and allow permits to be sold to licensed hunters beginning Aug. 3.
The FWC has divided the state into seven bear units.The four units that will have a hunting season contain the largest bear populations and include all three national forests as well as southern Florida. A portion of Taylor County lies within the Eastern Panhandle Unit (see map on page 11) which contains one of the largest populations in the state.
