{"id":21199,"date":"2018-12-21T10:01:52","date_gmt":"2018-12-21T15:01:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/perrynewspapers.com\/?p=21199"},"modified":"2018-12-21T10:01:54","modified_gmt":"2018-12-21T15:01:54","slug":"thomas-lee-folsom-jr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/perrynewspapers.com\/?p=21199","title":{"rendered":"Thomas Lee Folsom, Jr."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Mr. Thomas Lee Folsom, Jr., 78,\nof Monticello passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2018, with his family by his side,\nat Margaret Z. Dozier House at Big Bend Hospice in Tallahassee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tom suffered a three-year battle\nwith Parkinson\u2019s Disease\/Lewy Body Dementia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born in the Folsom family home of\nMonticello in 1940, he was the son of the late Thomas Lee Folsom and Thelma\nHart Folsom and the brother of his late sister, Patricia (Patsy) Folsom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tom had been a member of the\nFirst United Methodist Church of Monticello where he and his wife attended with\ntheir four children for many years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He leaves behind his cherished\nwife of 53 years, Jean Knowles Folsom, his older sister, his beloved children\n(4) and grandchildren (9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tom graduated from Jefferson\nCounty High School in 1958, then went on to join the U.S. Navy in 1960 and\nserved honorably for four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1964, he became the first\nstudent to enroll in North Florida Junior College of Madison, where he received\nhis AA degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tom first began working in the\ninsurance industry in 1966, for Northwestern Mutual in Tallahassee, and\ncontinued there for 15 years. During this time, he served as president of the\nCapital City Kiwanis Club and a member of the Northwestern Mutual Million\nDollar Roundtable. Tom worked as an entrepreneur most of his adult life and\neventually began his own successful company, Florida Insurance Consultants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He enjoyed spending quality time\nwith his family. Tom was very active with the Aucilla Christian Academy Booster\nClub, including serving as president. He and Jean enjoyed traveling throughout\nthe United States in their motor coach, creating great memories for eight years\nonce they reached retirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tom is survived by his wife, Jean\nKnowles Folsom, his sister, Jeanette Hager of Greenville, S.C., his four\nchildren, Jeanna Renee Mincy of Pensacola, Kimberly Folsom-Kuster (Bob) of\nArlington, Va., Tamara Folsom Smith (Chris) of Tallahassee, and Thomas Lee\nFolsom, III (Amy), also of Tallahassee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has nine grandchildren, all of\nwhom he was most proud, Courteney Benjamin (Amos), Lindsey Mincy, Kaley Mincy,\nCaden Folsom, Abbie Smith, Christy Smith, Brett Folsom, Emory Folsom and Robbie\nKuster. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A memorial service will be held\nat 11 a.m. Today (Friday) at the Bevis Funeral Home Chapel, 200 John Knox Road\nin Tallahassee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitation with the family will\nbe held for an hour following the service.
