Lillian Gloria \u201cBrownie\u201d Holmes, 90, of Perry, died Tuesday, Jan.\n1, 2019, in Thomasville, Ga., following a brief illness. Gloria was born Jan.\n6, 1928, in Boyd to Boyet Levi Poppell and Lilly Pearl York Poppell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She graduated from Taylor County High School where she was active\nin sports and played on the girl\u2019s basketball team. She was of the Baptist\nfaith and a member of First Baptist Church of Perry. Not only was Gloria a\nhomemaker, she also worked as a teacher\u2019s aide and a bookkeeper for many years.\nIn her spare time, she enjoyed bowling, painting, and spending time with her\nfamily and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, James\n\u201cJ.H.\u201d Holmes Jr. in May of 2018; and her eight brothers and sisters, Delmar\nand Samuel Poppell, Coretha Burnett, Hazel Davis, Lucy Cochran, Sarah Paris,\nMyrtis Roberts and Alva Lee Odom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is survived by: her children, Jeanne Diane Owens and James\nDaryl Holmes; six grandchildren, Shane Owens (Jade), Janice James (Roy), Daniel\nOwens (Betsy), Daryl Holmes, Jr. (Christy), Kristina Brown (Matt) and David\nHolmes (Kaitlin); 14 great-grandchildren, Taylor, Hunter, Britton, Karlee,\nAddison, J.P., Eli, Tucker, Weston, Cailyn, Autumn, Cayden, Kylee and Anniston;\nand one great-great-granddaughter, Carter, and one great-great-grandson,\nCannon; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, at 11 a.m.\nat First Baptist Church of Perry with Pastor Steven Ruff officiating. Interment\nservices will follow immediately afterwards in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family\nwill receive friends one hour prior to the service starting at 10 a.m. All\narrangements are under the care of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
