On June 7, 2019, Raymond Paul Pettitt passed away at the age of\n90. He was a devoted father, a loving husband to Bonnie Ruth (Baggett) Pettitt\nof 68 years and a devout Christian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He served as head deacon at\nCharleston Heights Baptist Church. He was also an usher and served the First\nBaptist Church in Perry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raymond served his country\nproudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (1948 – 1952). He received the\nKorean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and achieved Sergeant First Class\nranking in the US Army. He served as a reservist in the US Army for an\nadditional 28 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raymond is survived by: his wife,\nBonnie; four children, Paul R. Pettitt, Deborah G. Richard (Pettitt), James F.\nPettitt and Christopher Erwin Pettitt; grandchildren, Richie Henry L. Richard,\nIII and wife Crystal, and Crystal Elizabeth Marie Pettitt, great-grandchildren,\nChristian and Colbie Richard and Arianna Jayden Marie Pettitt. Raymond is also\nsurvived by: his son-in-law, Henry Richard; siblings, Donald Pettitt of Perry\nand Shirley Taverno of Virginia; his sister-in-law, Gayle Phillips and Mike\nPhillips of Charleston, S.C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raymond was an accomplished\nfarmer and always maintained a positive and humorous outlook. He was loved by\nmany and will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing Raymond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Funeral services were held\nTuesday, June 11, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Perry with Pastor\nSteven Ruff officiating. Interment services followed immediately afterwards in\nWoodlawn Cemetery with military honors. The family received friends from 6-8\np.m. Monday, June 10, at Joe P. Burns Funeral Home, and 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, June\n11, at First Baptist Church of Perry. All arrangements are under the direction\nof Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
