Riles Edward Hill, 64, died surrounded by his family on\nSunday, July 28, 2019 at Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The cause\nof death was complications from a stroke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A native of Perry, Edward was a 1973 graduate of Taylor\nCounty High School. He was the son of Marie Whitfield Hill and the late Riles\nHill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His grandparents, Curtis Whitfield and Audrey Hendry\nWhitfield, and his infant daughter, Emily Hill, also preceded him in death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Edward began working as a millwright for Watkins Engineers\nand Constructors in Perry. Joe Mason and C.A. Lewis were mentors he credited\nthroughout his career. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He managed construction sites in Port St. Joe, Florida, and\nAlbany, Georgia, before teaming with his daughter, Jessica Colbert, to create an\nindustrial construction company, Universal Maintenance Incorporated, in Toccoa,\nGeorgia. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to being an entrepreneur, Edward was also an\ninventor. He held several patents including a dewatering system called the UMDK\nthat is currently used by the poultry industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Edward enjoyed fishing and boating with his grandchildren at\nhis home on Lake Lanier, Georgia. His pastimes also included attending Florida\nState University and Atlanta Falcons football games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Susan; three daughters,\nPatty Patterson of Guntersville, Alabama, Jessica Colbert (Jesse) of Toccoa,\nGeorgia, and Lyndsey Cathey (Lee) of Mexico Beach, Florida; in addition to his\nmother, Marie Hill, he is survived by three brothers, Carl Hill, of Perry, Mark\nHill of Tallahassee, and Link Hill of Perry; and six grandchildren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visitation is scheduled at Faith Baptist Church in Perry at\n10 am on Saturday with a funeral beginning at 11 am in the sanctuary. Interment\nwill follow at Pineview Memorial Gardens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The family requests memorial contributions be made to Samaritan\u2019s\nPurse and St. Jude Children\u2019s Research Hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
