    Hampton Springs pool buried

    Posted on March 2, 2018

The pool at the historic Hampton Springs Park has been a Taylor County landmark attraction for 110 years. However, on Wednesday, county work crews filled the pool with truckloads of broken cement and rocks. The county commission approved making the pool inaccessible several months ago as part of its “Major Projects” list, citing liability issues and vandalism.

The pool, connected to a sulphur spring, was one of the few remaining original features of the iconic Hampton Springs Hotel that once stood on the site. In 2006, the county completed a $1 million restoration project at the site, funded through transportation enhancement and Bureau of Historical Preservation grants.
