Recounting the 46-second span of time that forever changed his life, Taylor County Deputy Robert Lundy is calm and matter-of-fact.
“I’m not even sure if I got all the transmission out (before) I was shot in the gut. I didn’t know exactly what had happened but I remember feeling a big thump, a big blast. I looked down and realized I had been shot. But I was still on my feet, I still had my gun in my hand. At that point, I go into survival mode,” Lundy said in a seven-minute video shown during the 2015 Florida Sheriffs Association (FSA) awards ceremony Tuesday, July 14, where he was honored as “Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.”
