High speed chase fueled by ‘Flaka?’

Derak Cook Jr.’s behavior had become so alarming that his mother successfully sought a Marchman Act (involuntary commitment) order on his behalf.

However, before the order could be served, the 23-year-old took his grandmother’s car without permission and led officers on a high speed chase Wednesday morning that ended with a head-on crash on Jefferson Street in the heart of a residential area and only a short distance away from the Boys & Girls Club.

PHOTO: Derak Cook Jr. was thought to be armed when law enforcement officers began their search for him Wednesday morning. He sped through residential neighborhoods, forcing numerous vehicles off the road, in his attempt to elude authorities.
