    $10.5 million earmarked for Elevate Florida in Taylor Co.

    Although properties located in the VE flood zone (shown in purple in this aerial map of Keaton Beach) are not currently eligible to receive Elevate Florida funds to repair, rebuild, replace or raise homes, county officials are urging residents to apply regardless, in hopes the legislature may change the eligibility guidelines.

    At a special meeting Tuesday evening, the Taylor County Commission agreed to earmark $10.5 million in federal mitigation funding for the Florida Division of Emergency Management’s (FDEM) new “Elevate Florida” program, which could be used by local residents to elevate or rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Helene.
