Families evacuate as rain continues

The flooding in Steinhatchee has forced several families to leave their homes, but officials say most people are staying put despite the fact that they can only come and go by boat. This resulted in a medical emergency Sunday evening in which responders had to use a boat to transport the patient to an awaiting ambulance.

“Steinhatchee residents deal with this flood water at least once each year,” Taylor County Emergency Management Director Steve Spradley said. “They routinely do not evacuate, because this is just a nuisance that they can deal with.”
