New congressional map impacts Taylor

The Florida House approved a new congressional district map for Florida Tuesday, keeping the base map legislative staff unveiled two weeks ago with a drastically different District 2, which includes Taylor County.

After several hours of debate, the House voted 76-35 in favor of the map. Several House members complained about the role of the Florida Supreme Court, whose decision in July to invalidate the prior congressional maps as unconstitutional necessitated the current special session. Others meanwhile, expressed concerns over the dilution of minority voters in several of the altered districts.
