Sinkhole leads to road closure on SR 51

With SR 51 closed between Steinhatchee and Tennille due to a sinkhole, officials and residents were awaiting the results of core samples which would determine whether traffic could resume this week or will remain closed for up to two additional weeks.

The roadway has been closed since Saturday when the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) reported that a depression in the northbound lane of SR 51 four miles north of Steinhatchee had developed into a sinkhole.
