    Florida Standards meets the mark in student assessment

    Following the well-documented problems with the administration of the new Florida Standards Assessment (FSA) last spring, the state legislature ordered the Florida Department of Education (DOE) to conduct a validity study on the new exam, which has delayed the release of student results and school grades.

    That study, conducted by Alpine Testing Solutions, was released last week and concludes the test is an adequate way to measure Florida’s new education standards, although it noted significant issues with the implementation. While the analysis recommends against the state using the 2014-15 scores for student-based decisions such as retention and graduation, it did say the results can be used for group-level decisions including teacher evaluations and school grades.
