Leon County Circuit Judge Terry Lewis ruled Friday on a new congressional district for the state, siding with the plaintiffs in the case over the Florida Legislature, but his proposal could still have wide-ranging impacts on Taylor County’s Washington, D.C., representation moving forward.
At total of seven maps were submitted by the parties in the case to Lewis, a Perry native and Taylor County High School graduate. Three were from the legislature while the other four were from the various plaintiffs in the case. Lewis held a three-day hearing to receive testimony from both sides. In his ruling, he chose one of the maps from the consolidated plaintiffs.
