To help kick off the 60th annual Florida Forest Festival, Georgia-Pacific and the Foley Cellulose Mill have donated $13,000 toward festival activities.
The event was first held in 1956 as the Pine Tree Festival in a community effort to help promote forest fire safety. By 1965, Taylor County’s forest fire record had improved to the point that then Gov. Hayden Burns declared the county Tree Capital of the South.
