Garrett A. Arrowood, 26, waived his right to a 12-person jury and, in return, the State Attorney’s Office agreed to take the death penalty off the table during a pre-trial hearing held Monday at the Taylor County Courthouse.

Arrowood faces a first degree murder charge for the June 23 shooting death of his aunt, longtime Taylor County educator Shelly Strickland.
