Three local men, including County Commissioner Jody DeVane, were rescued from the Gulf of Mexico this past weekend, after the 75-foot boat they were transporting from Ft. Meyers to Steinhatchee sank in 90 feet of water off the coast of Egmont Key.
DeVane, Billy Strickland and Leslie Mckenzie, along with the owner of the boat, were able to escape to a second, smaller boat they were towing at the time, but a dead battery left them stranded in high seas and again taking on water.
