Retired banker and local minister Gil Williams has announced his candidacy for the Perry City Council, Dist. 1.
“I am running to serve the people of Dist. 1. There are issues on which I have not agreed with the city council. The first being that they gave themselves such a large raise. I am not saying they do not deserve the raise, but how they went about it was not right. It would have been better if they had made the increase effective at some future date, for instance after the next election. But by making it immediate, they looked like greedy individuals. My father taught me if you agree to work for a man for a certain amount then honor that contract no matter what someone else is being paid. Jesus also used that as a parable of the workers in the field. The members knew what they were being paid when they ran for and got elected to office,” Williams said.
