    Convicted murderer Phelps dies in prison

    2016-07-22-Lloyd-Phelps-Final-DOC-photoLloyd Phelps, the Perry man convicted of the January 2006 murder of Patricia “Niece” Knight, has died in prison less than a week from the three-year mark of his life sentence. He was 62.

    “On Sunday, July 17, inmate Lloyd Phelps died of apparent natural causes while incarcerated at a Department of Corrections reception and medical center. In the event of an inmate death, the medical examiner will determine the cause of death. The Florida Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General is the lead investigative authority for this case. The department will employ all available resources to ensure that a thorough investigation is completed. As this is an open and active investigation, this is all of the information available at this time,” Florida Department of Corrections officials said.
