Seventh grader battles the odds in cancer fight

Cancer survivor Nicole Myer, 12, has two goals set for her seventh grade year: one, return to the classroom with her friends and, two, walk into school under her own steam–without the aid of a walker or wheelchair.

It has been a grueling nine months for the young girl. Last fall doctors discovered a malignant brain tumor that required immediate surgery.

PHOTO: The Myer family–father Mark, mother, Peggy, son, Eli, and daughter, Nicole–said they are grateful for the support they have received from family, friends and the community since Nicole’s cancer diagnosis. The incoming seventh grader faces three more rounds of chemotherapy in the coming months.
