Emergency officials on watch as tropical storm approaches

Local emergency officials are monitoring the potential development of a tropical wave which could develop later this weekend or early next week as it approaches Florida and possibly the Gulf of Mexico.

On Wednesday and early Thursday, the system briefly boasted winds strong enough to classify it as a tropical storm, but lacked the circulation to qualify.
