Governor stressed need to open schools on schedule

    Posted on September 9, 2016

Superintendent of Schools Paul Dyal weathered his own storm when he announced Taylor County schools would re-open as scheduled Tuesday morning, Sept. 6, in the wake of Hurricane Hermine.

“We had a lot of criticism,” Dyal said Tuesday night during the school board’s regular meeting. “Sunday, I had two conference calls with the governor (Rick Scott), commissioner of education and Senator (Bill) Montford. One was at 3:15 p.m. and one at 7:15 p.m. The governor strongly encouraged us to do whatever we needed to do on Monday to get our schools ready to open on Tuesday. He wanted some normalcy back in our students’ lives,” he explained.
