The Taylor County School Board has approved its final $35.7 million budget for the 2016-17 school year, which will see its general fund cash balance drop by $1.8 million.
According to Finance Director Ashley Valentine, who provided a summary of the budget to board members during their meeting Tuesday, the starting fund balance for the year was $2.6 million. By June 30, 2017, however, that balance is projected to fall to $818,000, which is above the state-mandated three-percent threshold, but below the board’s policy of $1 million.
