Crash victims ‘pure, beautiful souls’

Standing at the end of the diving board, little Rachel Sheffield counted down before jumping in…”two-three-two-three,” and in she would go, never getting to “one” before splashing into the cool water.

It was a scene repeated time after time, and one that shines brightly in her grandmother’s memory.

“I can just see her standing there, counting. Rachel was a wonderful person, everybody loved Rachel,” Maxine Glenn said.

Sheffield, 30, and her fiancé, Michael Halstead, 29, both of Crawfordville, died Friday, Sept. 16, in a devastating crash that also critically injured two Taylor County teens.
