If more proof was needed of the magnitude of storm surge Hurricane Hermine wrought on Taylor County, it arrived Monday when two manatees were found stranded in a small body of water one and a half miles inland from the shore at Hickory Mound.
The discovery set off a massive rescue effort which ended happily when the nine-foot long mother and her five-foot long calf were found to be healthy enough to be released back into the Gulf.
