On Wednesday, President Barack Obama declared that a major disaster exists in Florida as a result of Hurricane Hermine, but Taylor County, which experienced the highest winds and tidal surge from the storm, was not among the counties approved for individual assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Many Taylor County residents along the coast, some of whom still cannot live in their homes due to the damage they experienced, have been waiting for the president’s declaration, and local officials are still working to have Taylor County approved for individual assistance.
