Local firefighters with the Florida Forest Service and Taylor County Fire-Rescue took part in battling a 510- acre wildfire in southern Madison County that was close to threatening almost a dozen structures when crews contained the blaze.
According to Perry District Manager Eric Black, the fire began around 3:30 p.m. Sunday near Madison Main Line north of the Taylor/Madison line. It was first reported when forest service personnel noticed smoke from one of their fire towers. A plane was sent to determine the fire’s location and how it could be reached.
