While Dixie County no longer wants Steinhatchee’s run-aground Louisa to build an artificial reef, local officials still hope the 40-ton vessel will soon be on its way out of the river once and for all–thanks to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
Last month, the Taylor County Commission applied for a Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) grant to fund the removal of the boat, which was beached during Hurricane Hermine in September. The plan was to move it to Dixie County where it was set to become part of a new artificial reef.
