William “Bill” Merrill never called Perry home. In truth, he never had a chance to put down roots in any particular town.

But he found a home in the military, joining the National Guard at age 17.

As his young brother Paul Merrill–who has called Perry home for the past 58 years–describes it, “the Guard suited him to a ‘T’…he was very good at it.”
