A nearly two-mile stretch of Highway 221 was closed Monday night, Nov. 20, for several hours while emergency crews responded to an overturned semi-truck loaded with wood chips that caught fire and burned, claiming the life of a 36-year-old Georgia man.
Bailey Heard of Pavo, Ga., was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Chelsey Anderson, 29, also of Pavo, escaped through the truck’s back windshield and sustained only minor injuries.
