James David (J.D.) Cannon was born Oct. 28, 1948, in Humboldt, Tenn., and died Aug. 3, 2017.
Cannon served in the U.S. Navy and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal. He settled in Tallahassee and worked for UPS for 35 years. When
he retired he moved to Eastpoint where he lived with his devoted wife, Maria.
David loved the coastal area and enjoyed his daily rides to St. George Island where he was well known as he served this area when he worked for UPS. He would stop and say hello to many on the “Island” as he would say. His visits will be missed.
He was also an avid Seminole fan and longtime Florida State University (FSU) booster, supporting both the football and baseball programs.
He is survived by: his wife, Maria; a daughter, Leslie Sellers; two grandchildren, Tyler and Riley Sellers, and a great granddaughter all from Tallahassee; two sisters, Jane Taylor (Jerry) of Newberry and Judy Stephens (Donnie) of Crawfordville; his youngest brother, John Cannon of St. George Island; and a half- sister, Renee Cannon of Tallahassee.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Cannon Jr.; his mother, Inez Cannon; and his brother, Ronnie Cannon.
Cannon’s wishes were to be cremated and he did not want a formal service.
David Conn of Bevis Funeral Home, Harvey Young Chapel in Crawfordville, is assisting the family.
