    William Swanson Clark

    William Swanson “Bill” Clark, 80, died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, in Gainesville.
    Bill was born Sept. 20, 1936, in Bourbon County, Ky., to Jessie Clark and Anna Belle Finney Clark.
    William honorably served his country in the United States Air Force in Japan and during the Vietnam War. He retired as a chief master sergeant after 21 years of service.
    After retiring from the service, he moved back to Perry in 1975. He worked with the state road department for 11 years as a safety inspector and later worked with Smurfitt Stone Container.
    Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Anna Belle Clark, and a brother, Wayne Clark.
    Mr. Clark is survived by: his children, Jesse Clark (Rhonda), Jeannie Smyrnios and Carolyn Flores; his sister, Joyce Weaver (Jerry); and longtime companion, Lavonne Davis; as well as seven grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
    Graveside services will be held Friday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta, Ga., with Ben Kimmell officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at Burns Funeral Home of Perry.
