    Troy J.L. Thompson Sr.

    Troy J.L. Thompson Sr., 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2017, in Mayo.
    Troy was born Dec. 1, 1929, in Spring Garden, Va., to Troy L. Thompson and Beulah Richardson Thompson.
    Mr. Thompson was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Luraville Baptist Church. He was the founder of T&R Marine establishing it in 1970, retiring from it 1982.
    Troy joined the Masonic Lodge in Virginia more than 65 years ago, being raised to master mason. He was currently a member of the Mayo Masonic Lodge #119; he was a Shriner with the Marzuq Temple of Tallahassee, where he served as Potentate in 1995. He was also a member of the Perry Shrine Club.
    Troy loved to fly and had received his pilot license in 1974. He was also a restricted radiotelephone operator with the Federal Communications Commission back in the 1950s. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking, traveling, seeing new places and enjoyed fishing, and was once a charter boat captain out of Steinhatchee back in the 1940s.
    Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Troy L. and Beulah Thompson, and a stepson, Charlie Smith.
    Mr. Thompson is survived by: his wife of 29 years, Mrs. Mary Thompson of Mayo; his children, Troy Lee Thompson III (Wanda), Betty Ratliff (Glenn) and Billy Thompson (Samantha); and step children, Cathy Kohnke (John), and Alan Smith (Gail); as well as a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
    A graveside service will be held Thursday, Sept. 7, at 11 a.m. at Carlton Cemetery with Pastor Ron Rush officiating. Masonic rites will be bestowed.
