    Doris Pittman York

    Doris Pittman York, 85, died, along with her husband, Johnny, Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at her home in Perry.
    Doris was born Dec. 11, 1931, in Perry to Marvin Pittman and Mary Magdeline Hall Pittman.
    Mrs. York was of the Baptist faith and was a member of New Home Baptist Church. Doris worked with Lee Cypress for many years, then later at Martin Electronics. Doris and Johnny, also known as Meme and Papa, will be forever remembered for their caring and loving of others, always cooking, baking and providing support to those in need. In her spare time, Doris enjoyed quilting, crocheting and reading, but, most of all, hunting in the Western Sloughs.
    Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin and Mary Magdeline Pittman; her brothers, Clyde Pittman, Howard Pittman and Dewey “Billy” Pittman; and her son-in-law, Carson Walker.
    Mrs. York is survived by: her daughter, Mary Ann Walker; grandson, Cody Walker and Erica Knight; and a host of nieces and nephews.
    A memorial service was held Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 5 p.m., at Burns Funeral Home of Perry with nephew Donnie Pittman and Pastor Jeff Stading officiating. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
    All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry. In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe account has been established to assist the family with expenses.
